It’s being talked about by all the media – The Scottish Government has been given a reprieve with a new extended deadline of October 15th which will avoid EU fines of up to £125million for failing to meet the June 30th deadline for CAP payments.
But is that really the whole truth? Unconfirmed reports would suggest that the fines have not been cancelled or deferred, merely reduced.
So, if these reports are true then the Scottish Government is indeed still paying tens of millions in EU fines as well as rewarding the failure of the CAP system with yet more money for the companies and people who failed to deliver in the first place.
Now, more than ever, the CAP system needs a public inquiry.
