Questions for the Immigration Minister

A few, but not comprehensive specific questions:

  • As British Airways has just laid off 900 IT staff, will he be refusing to allow British Airways to sponsor Tier 2 migrants coming into the UK on the premise that they cannot find qualified IT staff
  • As HSBC has just laid off 840 IT staff,  will he be refusing to allow HSBC to sponsor Tier 2 migrants coming into the UK on the premise that they cannot find qualified IT staff
  • As IBM has just laid off 1,300 IT staff in the UK and 1/3 of its Worldwide workforce, will he be refusing to allow IBM to sponsor Tier 2 migrants coming into the UK on the premise that they cannot find qualified IT staff
  • As HP has laid off 40,000 IT staff worldwide, will he be refusing to allow HP to sponsor Tier 2 migrants coming into the UK on the premise that they cannot find qualified IT staff

One general question:

  • As the number of qualified IT people that have been laid off recently is greater than the cap for Tier 2 migrants, will he be reducing the cap to zero until such time as there are no more unemployed qualified IT people.
